Not everyone has an attic, but the idea of it lives in our imagination: dust and boxes, mice and pigeons, old things, broken things, useless or precious things… things we can’t bring ourselves to part with, secrets and treasures fallen into an oblivion of mould and cobwebs. 

Never well lit, rarely easy to reach: the narrow stairs creak, the key barely turns in the lock. The switch for that single bulb, dangling bravely, dim and flickering in the middle of the room, is never where you look. 

A topos of literature, from fairy tales to 1980s teen movies, a stage for nostalgic and joyful memories, a symbol of fears and the subconscious, in this quintessentially bohemian room, on the border between museum and dump, the past, the forgotten and the démodé are ready to return to the stage.
